Take my word on this folks!
1. Always do a Carfax.
2. Carfax's are NOT always right. I have seen more than one that was wrong! If you do have a wrong carfax on your car, its VERY tough to get it reversed on the report.
3. But, this is a Carfax world. So, if you want to sell your car retail, you need a CLEAN Carfax with each car/truck. A "bad" carfax can make the sale very hard!

Its interesting how Carfax has became this machine in the car business. I do not really see it going away anytime soon. So just know, the rules have changed and you have to play the Carfax game on MOST cars. Cheap buy here pay here cars, it doesn't really matter.
